Now the key to all of this is, is the more experienced you get, as I said, the more trust you have. And you don’t have trust in your own capacity to do all this stuff, you have trust in the capacity for it to be done. So you’re just opening. Cos really it’s the light of consciousness that does most of the work. Right? It’s the light of consciousness.

Cos All that light is doing is shining itself, darkness is attracted to the light as well as light is attracted to the light. Just like moths to a flame. That’s the kind of the principle. That’s why when you have these great openings you’ll often have later moments of darkness. It’s just like moths going towards the flame. Everything wants to be liberated. Everything. And guess what everything moves towards? YOU.

Cos you are that light of being. The brighter you get, the more the dark goes, ‘Whoopee! I’ve been lookin’ for a bright light!’ at some point you stop resisting that and you have a great trust. And like I said, the trust isn’t a personal trust. In fact the deeper you go, the more you throw out the personal part of it, the trust is in that unfathomable intelligence and love that is. That is the structure of all existence. You become more and more open to it. You trust it more and more and more. So you stop getting in the way of it.

So this realm of Spirit is really the realm of Oneness. Pure spirit still has duality in it. Pure formless spirit has this duality. There’s pure formlessness and then world of form. But the deeper, mature realization of that is spirit is form and form is spirit. Or as it says in the heart sutra, form is emptiness; emptiness is form.

When the Buddhists say emptiness it’s much more like what a Christian would mean by spirit. It’s not all they mean by it, but it’s much closer to our notion of spirit than it is to our notion of an empty box. It’s not that kind of emptiness. It’s empty in the sense of No form, but a great presence and love and it’s a divinity

When that really matures, even the archetypal things that are releasing, and literally yin a certain sense they use you to release themselves, even things that don’t have anything to do with you will use you to release themselves. After that sort of process starts to calm down, there’s a distinct, very palpable, very deep sense of immovability.

And so its this will towards truth, its this curiosity about truth it’s this love of what’s true and what’s real is that what i’m calling the spiritual orientation. And when this starts to become alive in you, then you’ve begun the journey. You’ve really begun to ask the central questions.

You’re finally oriented in the direction of reality. You’re no longer oriented in the direction of fantasy. Which so much of spirituality is about fantasy. It’s about just spiritual ideas; it’s about spiritual belief systems. There’s an extraordinary amount of fantasy in spirituality and also in religion.

And so its really important that to notice that this desire or will towards truth, towards reality it’s not just something abstract. Because you know, someone that’s real intellectually oriented they’ll think about this in their mind and it’ll be a very abstract thing. What’s truth? and they’ll be thinking about it and it’ll be like a philosophy or a theology or some idea.

Where as somebody who is more emotionally based they’ll be looking to find what’s truth based on how they feel. Which is a terrible way to find truth. Cos we can feel really good, temporarily anyway, about things that are very untrue.

Delusions often have an element in them that feel very good, very satisfying. They’re not ultimately satisfying, but they have a component that can feel very very good that can feel very seductive. Seductive. Now you cant make the desire for truth into a formula. We often want to make things into a formula. Give me the 5-part plan towards spiritual awakening. Give me the formula, then I can just follow the formula, and if I follow it just right, I’ll end up enlightened.

But the desire for truth what’s inherent within it is that’s There is no formula. A formula comes from the known. It Literally is an expression of what we think we know, whatever formula I come up with

As strange as this may sound, truth is not based in the known. Truth is an outreaching into the unknown. Truth is that which gets you to reach out beyond what you think you know, beyond what you imagine you know into the unknown. Truth is that which will question itself. So truth, the desire for truth, the love of truth that which will get you to question yourself.

It can be really useful just to spend some time with, as I often ask people what is this about for you? Why re you here? What ate you doing here? What’s this all about? What this whole spiritual thing about for you? What’s this really about?
